Chief Technology Officer

The Role

As Chief Technology Officer at Picture Health, you'll lead our unified technology organization, bringing together our small engineering team with our world class AI Research team. This role requires a unique combination of technical leadership, deep AI/ML expertise, and healthcare domain knowledge to drive our mission-critical biomarker development and clinical platform.


You'll be responsible for scaling our technology infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining our competitive edge in AI imaging biomarkers during a critical growth phase. Our platform serves oncologists, pharmaceutical companies, and clinical researchers, each requiring sophisticated technical solutions that meet stringent healthcare standards. Your team will be responsible for developing and delivering the technical component of life sciences project deliverables.

What You'll Do

Technical & AI Leadership

  • Drive technical strategy across both engineering and AI research teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and knowledge transfer

  • Maintain hands-on involvement in AI/ML pipeline development and medical imaging analysis

  • Establish and evolve MLOps practices using ClearML and similar platforms for model development, validation, and deployment

  • Balance immediate product needs with long-term technical scalability and research innovation

Team Leadership

  • Lead and grow a unified technology organization combining engineering and AI research expertise

  • Build and maintain a collaborative culture that bridges traditional software engineering with cutting-edge AI research

  • Develop and implement hiring strategies to strategically expand both teams

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between technology, clinical, and business teams

Strategic Impact

  • Partner with clinical and business leadership to align technology efforts with regulatory requirements and commercial goals

  • Own the technology roadmap for both platform development and biomarker research

  • Lead technical due diligence and planning for Series A funding round

  • Drive technology decisions that support pharmaceutical partnerships and clinical trial requirements

Regulatory & Healthcare Expertise

  • Ensure all technology development meets FDA and other regulatory standards for medical devices

  • Lead technical aspects of regulatory submissions and clinical trial support

  • Implement quality management systems and validation processes for medical imaging AI

  • Navigate healthcare data privacy, security, and compliance requirements (HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11)

Required Experience

  • 15+ years of software engineering and technology leadership experience, with 5+ years in a senior technology leadership role

  • Deep AI/ML expertise with hands-on experience in medical imaging, computer vision, and biomarker development

  • Healthcare technology experience with knowledge of medical imaging standards (DICOM), regulatory frameworks, and clinical workflows

  • Oncology domain knowledge with understanding of cancer biology, treatment modalities, and clinical significance of imaging biomarkers

  • MLOps and platform experience with tools like ClearML, managing ML pipelines, and deploying models in regulated environments

  • Regulatory experience with FDA submissions, clinical trial support, and medical device development processes

  • Team leadership experience managing both engineering and research teams, ideally in healthcare or biotech

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with clinical and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or related field

  • Clinical research experience with participation in clinical trials and understanding of endpoints and statistical analysis

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience with drug development processes and biomarker validation

  • Previous CTO or VP Engineering experience at healthcare technology or biotech companies

  • Regulatory leadership experience with FDA breakthrough device designation, De Novo submissions, or similar pathways
